2025 looks set to start on a thrilling note, with the arrival of Missing You – the latest adaptation of a Harlan Coben bestseller for Netflix – on 1st January. Once again, UK Locations is proud to have provided several shoot locations for the series, continuing our tradition of contributing to the success of Coben’s gripping TV dramas. In this blog, we’ll unveil the standout locations we supplied and offer a glimpse behind the scenes of this much-anticipated show, made by Quay Street Productions for Netflix.
A glimpse into the world of Missing You
Missing You centres on Detective Kat Donovan, whose world is turned upside down when she spots her fiancé, Josh, on a dating app – a man she thought had vanished eleven years ago. Josh’s reappearance takes Kat back into the mysteries of her past, including the unresolved murder of her father. The series promises heart-pounding twists, long-buried secrets, and the emotional stakes that Harlan Coben fans have come to expect.
While the original novel is set in New York City, the Netflix adaptation relocates the story to the UK, making the most of Manchester and the surrounding North West of England as its backdrop. This creative decision allowed UKL to step in with some exceptional shoot locations that bring the story to life.
Missing You shoot locations: From page to screen
Shoot location 2951: A police officer’s home
This large architectural family home in Greater Manchester – known to UKL and its HETV clients as location 2951 – acts the home of one of the police officers in the story. We see it most clearly in a scene where this character receives a visit from their colleagues, leading to an interesting revelation…
Fortunately, the property’s exterior can be seen in the show too. We say ‘fortunately’ because it’s a sight worth seeing! This stunning property has been built using a combination of red brick and wood, and features an angular roof design that creates an unforgettable visual impact – take a look.
The viaducts: A kidnapping scene in the heart of Manchester
One of the series’ pivotal moments, which can be seen in the official Missing You trailer, involves a character being kidnapped and driven off in a van. This intense sequence unfolds against the striking backdrop of Manchester’s historic viaducts, close to the iconic Sackville Street Building. UKL proudly represents the latter a shoot location and was able to facilitate parking space for the production team during the filming of this scene. The blend of industrial charm and urban grit made this setting perfect for the scene’s tension-filled drama.
Shoot location 3035: A professional meeting place
Another standout setting is the sleek, modern office used for a scene between a detective and an accountant. Also known as shoot location 3035, this uber-stylish office building in central Manchester features Scandinavian-inspired communal areas and meeting rooms with breathtaking views of the city. It’s not just a fantastic backdrop for high-end TV dramas; it’s also ideal for corporate shoots and interviews. UKL was delighted to contribute this versatile space to the production.
