We provided Elisa’s house in Disney+ series, The Stolen Girl – and now we’re giving you access too.
The mystery of the missing daughter in the new Disney+ mini-series, The Stolen Girl, might begin at the luxury rental home where she’s invited to stay for the night by a new friend, but it’s her mum, Elisa’s house that gets the limelight, featuring in countless scenes throughout the series and on the official promo image. In this blog, we take you behind the scenes of this stunning filming location.
Rated 91% by Rotten Tomato users, The Stolen Girl was produced by Manchester-based Quay Street Productions, the same team behind hits including Fool Me Once (Netflix), Nolly (ITVX) and Missing You (Netflix) – all of which we also provided key locations for.

Elisa’s house in Disney+ series, The Stolen Girl
When the producers came to us this time, they were looking for a large family period home within easy reach of central Manchester, which they could hire as a filming location for two months. And location 2820 – an exquisitely decorated detached red brick house in Stockport, owned by interior designer Kate Bowls – got the gig.

Although filming wasn’t taking place every single day during that period (a whole month of it was purely for dressing the house as required by the production’s art department, and putting it all back at the end), the owner had to move into alternative accommodation for the duration. When this happens, as it often does on big TV dramas, the company hiring the location covers the cost.
Creating Elisa’s house for the Disney+ series, The Stolen Girl
All manner of changes were made to the property for the series, from fairly run-of-the-mill stuff like taking down artwork and storing away furniture, to more drastic changes such as removing the existing kitchen windows and doors and replacing them with new ones, taking down fences and painting the property’s large gates.

As the location agency operating on behalf of the owner, it’s our job to get as much detail about the art department’s intentions from the production company so that we can run it all past the owner. We’re also there to ensure that everything gets put back to how it was and to help resolve any outstanding issues there might be after filming.
The fact that the owner of location 2820 agreed to the changes outlined above is testament to the trust our Location Partners have in us and, by default, our clients. Moving out for two months and giving over your home to a film crew is a huge commitment for a property owner, but by working with UKL, they can rest assured that everything will be handled professionally – and that they’ll be paid handsomely (in this case, the owner received a very generous five-figure sum!).
Other filming locations used in The Stolen Girl
Elisa’s house isn’t the only location we provided for The Stolen Girl; one of our former commercial filming locations was also chosen for the mini-series. Keep an eye out for Manchester’s iconic Sunlight House (now unavailable for filming, having been redeveloped as a co-working space by our partners, Kinrise), which doubles as the news agency where investigative reporter, Selma Desai, works.
